lisa was born and raised in sussex and after a little shifting around, settled with her family in the heart of the south downs, only a few miles from the sussex coast.

lisa is self-taught in her art, learning through research, study and experimentation.  she has dabbled in furniture upcycling, acrylics, watercolours and working with sea glass, but a life-changing personal event gave lisa the nudge she needed to take her creative passions more seriously.

lisa's art is greatly influenced by the sea in particular, finding as she does the sea to be exhilarating, energising, powerful, spiritually uplifting, and at the same time peaceful, grounding, and healing.  lisa and her dog friend visit the coast and landscape around them whenever possible, returning to her studio to interpret and recreate the pictures from her mind, and often her camera.

why do i make art?  art for me is not a hobby or a job.  it is part of who i am.  i have to make art for my own well-being  (hannah kirk, artist)

drawn to felt artwork, lisa uses merino wool, silks, bamboo threads and other embellishments in the wet felting process (where water and soap are used to bond the fibres) and needle felting process (using barbed needles and finger guards!) to 'paint' her pictures.  dyed wool is mainly used but she is lucky enough to have a relative living in somerset who keeps a herd of rare breed sheep.  unspun curly locks straight from the farm often feature in her work, and she has been known to pull fleece locks from fences whilst out walking!

the artist support pledge initiative is all about supporting the artistic community during lockdown.  the concept is a simple one.  artists post images of their work that they are willing to sell for no more than £200.  every time the artist reaches £1000 of sales, they pledge to buy another artist's work for £200.  this creates a dynamic culture and market, where all can contribute, whatever their level of success.  it has over 36,000 followeres on instagram, so is turning into a bit of a movement!  if you would like to purchase a piece from LuLu@no.8, please use the 'shop' page or the 'get in touch' page
